NEWS

September 2024: Sidney jonis the United Nations secretariat in the Climate Action and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Team at the International Maritime Organization headquartered in London, England.

July 2024: Sidney shoots a role in London, England in Xavier Pellin's upcoming dance film Someone in the Crowd.

 

October 2023: The Judge's Daughter is picked up for its sophomore run at The Firehall Arts Centre. Tickets.

In Her Shoes premieres at the Toronto International Women's Film Festival, Toronto Palestinian Film Festival, and New York Indie Short Awards.

 

September 2023: Sidney will play Erin in the world premiere of The Judge's Daughter, which invites audiences to consider the actions of the Canadian judiciary in the treatment of Indigenous land defenders and climate protectors. January 2023: Assistant Choreographed for Linda Garneau at Theatre Making Movement's Watch Me Work Symposium, and completed a Directing Mentorship under the tutelage of Liz Gilroy at The Canadian Guild of Stage Directors and Choreographers

October 2022: Sidney shoots a principal role in In Her Shoes directed by Mariam J. Momani and co-produced by ii3 Films and Heritage Canada.

September 2022: Sidney returns to Global Affairs Canada for the 77th United Nations General Assembly session on the policy negotiations team. 

 

April 2022: Sidney will appear as Alicia in the Toronto premiere of Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds with Artists in Residence, directed by Olivia Daniels Tickets

Sidney Klips (she/her) is a multidisciplinary performance artist, director, choreographer and educator. Growing up on unceeded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations territories, (colonially known as Vancouver) she is a graduate of the Arts Umbrella Theatre Conservatory and holds an Interdisciplinary BA (Political Science/Theatre) from the University of British Columbia. She currently resides between London, England and the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, (Toronto).

Sidney received an Outstanding Female Newcomer nomination at the Ovation Awards for her work onstage in Cry Baby (ASP) and Two Views from the Sylvia (Kol Halev). Recent performance highlights include the title role in world premiere of The Judge's Daughter (Firehall Arts Centre, Vancouver Fringe) the Toronto premiere of Small Mouth Sounds (Artists in Residence) the Western Canada tour of Side by Side by Sondheim (BC Living Arts/Sound the Alarm, Broadway World Best Actress nomination) Hair (Hart House), Kayak (Between Shifts), and Girl in the Goldfish Bowl (AUC). On camera, she has recently co-starred in the festival hits In Her Shoes (2023) and Ghost Theory (2021).

Directing credits include Graves in Plain Sight (Brave New Play Rites) The Fishbowl (Ignite at The Cultch) and Odet(te)s (SFU Crash Festival). Assistant directing credits include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Kevin Bennet/Place des Arts) Urinetown and Spoon River Anthology (Andy Toth/Arts Umbrella).

She received her formal dance training from Vancouver's best, most prominently under the renowned creator Rachael Poirier, (Poirier Productions) and Melanie Dance and Astrid Sherman, (Pro Arte Performing Arts). She has previously choreographed award-winning competitive numbers and taught on faculty at Dance Pointe Toronto, Stagecoach Toronto East, Arts Express Toronto and Lights Up! Musical Theatre Vancouver. She loves opening up young minds creatively through dance and theatre education.

Sidney is equally passionate about intersectional womxn's equity, overcoming systemic barriers to access, and human rights as she is about the performing arts, (her work often intersects). She has a parallel career in foreign affairs and research; having worked for Global Affairs Canada, the Embassy to the Baltic States, in refugee law, for the UBC Rural Surgical and Obstetrical Networks, and UBC Women's Health Research Cluster. In 2022 she was proud to serve on the United Nations General Assembly Policy negotiations team for the Canadian government during the 77th UNGA session. She currently has joined the international civil service at the United Nations International Maritime Organization, in the Marine Environment Division working on the Climate Action and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Team.
